Immediately, I knew this home had so much potential. Not all brick needs to be painted … however, this home & style was begging for a facelift.

After. Painted brick can be a game changer .. HOWEVER, please do not paint all brick!

Landscaping dramatically cutdown and made a comeback!

I went back & forth a hundred times about the red steps .. paint the steps? leave them red brick? I drove around looking & looking .. but in the end, there was no question … leave the original brick on the steps as well as the chimney!

New light fixtures make this 1990’s home look fresh & new.

This home has amazing bones ... so solid & built to perfection 30years ago.

All this entry, dining room & office needed was fresh paint, new lighting and re-finished floors!

Paint BM Cloud White on trim and walls ... fresh and bright.

Aiden Grey lantern is the perfect mix of old familiar lantern but fresh use of materials .. this is the crown jewel of the foyer.

Interior door paint .. BM Edgecombe Gray

Dining Room ... used as a music / sitting room.

This space is incredible. Lovely traditional paneling, molding and architectural details with 15’ high ceilings. Simple solution to update with paint, lighting, & refinished fresh hardwoods.

These red oak floors needed a facelift. I was worried about them turning “pink” if I used a lighter stain .. thankfully I found an incredible hardwood floor contractor who was super patient with me as we tried recipe after recipe mixing paint stains.

Aiden Gray lighting for the win in this music room.

Utilizing the piano as our jumping off point … The room is grand and the Aiden Gray French chandelier is elegant but not too fussy .. a sisal rug layered with an cowhide keeps the prissy factor down to a comfortable, warm & inviting. Anthropology mural is a knockout focal point but easy on the budget.

Another lovely detail with the built-in display niche & shell above ... this level of craftsmanship is not often utilized in new construction. (Because it would blow the budget)

The refinished light & bright floors brought this home into 2020.

Office to the left of the foyer .. thankfully a cabinet maker was able to replicate the upper doors sans the arch details.

This office was crem-de-la-crem back when the home was built.

The entrance of this home was dramatic .. It is always so pretty when you can see straight through the home out the windows.

There was a "den" off the kitchen on the front of the home where prior homeowner spent most of their time. However, this room screamed for the "family" to live here and enjoy the bright windows & views!

Modified built-ins, paint, new light fixture and of course lighter floors is all this space needed.

Notice the widow mullions are dark on the inside (not outside) .. leaving the red brick around the fireplace is a nod to the red brick on the exterior .. and leaves this room fresh but not too formal.

Notice the fireplace and mantle. We had a new beefy surround and an “overmantle” built.

The new woodwork stretches past the line of the built-in bookcases to give it proper proportions. Added sconces … Removed formal details from the bookcases (fluted trim, Grecian basket, grapevine corbels) and replaced with cleaner lines & millwork.

Never forget that lighting is all about LAYERING the lights .. overhead (ALWAYS on dimmers) mid-level with sconce lighting … and of course every room MUST have several lamps. Visual Comfort chandy & sconces.

If possible, I always prefer the TV to one side. I am not a fan of it over the fireplace but often that is what makes the most sense.

As always, a gallery wall adds personality and warmth.

Family room leads to the breakfast nook and kitchen. Notice the "peninsula" in kitchen.

How do you live? What suits your family best? Flipped the breakfast room to the back.

Created a cozy spot to read a book or enjoy the sunshine where the breakfast area once lived.

This sunroom became the dining area .. cozy enough for "breakfast" but pretty enough for fine dining.

The tile was ripped out and replaced with hardwoods to match existing.

The armillary sphere will go wherever we go. Notice the dark mullions give a nod to iron windows without the price-tag.

My favorite lighting sources - Visual Comfort pendants and Aiden Gray sconces. Top of the line appliances and lovely handmade tile shines on the backsplash. Notice the mix of metal and materials give layered texture that creates interest but soothing to live & work in. The floors … they provide a fresh update but yet grounded in tradition of old world Europe.

The peninsula with the glass cabinets ... on the wall to the right, the "office" work station ... so fancy back in the day with an intercom! LOL

Can we just pause for the hood? She remains the showstopper in this space.

The neutral wood bookcase & TV cabinet allows the personality to shine through with family photos and football games. Island seats SIX. Hardworking but beautiful quartz countertop with 2” mitered edge island.

Notice the mix of metals and materials. Gold pendants, iron & wood sconces, polished nickel hardware & faucet. Shine on the walls with tile to the ceiling .. rough wood bookcase .. this creates warmth and interest without committing to a “pattern” backsplash (which will quickly date your home and expensive to replace)

Sink wall ... the removal of the visually heavy overhead light fixture and upper cabinets really allowed this space to breath.

See something of value but not sure what to do with it? The brass footrest on the island did NOT go to the dumpster. I held on to it and even moved it to another home. Opening to the right leads to back hall, mud/laundry room, garage door & new bedroom entrance.

Symmetry is ALWAYS pleasing to the eye. Built-in coffee maker to the left .. appliance garage to the right.

Dishwasher to the left of the sink as well as another one in the island. Entertaining and cleanup has never been so easy!

Before. The original view when entering from the garage. The overhead lighting was “tres chic” when originally built.

After. The island and pendants are pretty but the windows steal the show IMHO. So bright & beautiful.

Before Master Bedroom. The doors lead to HIS bathroom on the left and HER bathroom on the right.

Before Master Bedroom. The doors lead to HIS bathroom on the left and HER bathroom on the right.

I closed up both doors and created one large master bath. Allowing for the bed to live on that wall … the opening to the bathroom is now on the same wall as the door into bedroom. (on the left wall not seen in this photo)

Bed now is the gorgeous focal point where the 2 bath doors once lived.

New chandelier and window treatments complete this transformation.

This is the vestibule created that was once HIS closet off HIS bathroom.

Used this built-in from HIS original bath. Color drenching this small space created a sense of drama from light to dark back to light.

HER bath before. The entrance was to the right of the tub. The door would swing open and hit the tub.

But it is a beautiful window! I just had to reconfigure the bath onto one large space and closet.

Tahhhh Dahhhhh! The new space and view as you enter from the vestibule.

Notice mixed metals .. gold chandelier with polished nickel hardware, sconces and plumbing.

Walls BM Seapearl .. Cabinets BM Cloud White

HIS & HER vanities now live on long wall that once had 2 doors into their separate baths.

Beautiful cabinets with a tower in-between the sinks ... this helps to prevent HER "product creep" into HIS space. LOL.

I love symmetry and towers. This space allowed for one “tower” .. the cabinet literally sits on the solid countertop surface .. the little garage allowed for hairdryer and other small appliances to be plugged in .. hot curling irons can safely be stored & concealed on the countertop behind closed doors.

Cabinets & trim BM Cloud White. Top Knobs hardware. Visual Comfort sconces mounted on the mirror bouncing light all around.

HIS bathroom & coset was converted into the vestibule and one large closet.

You can see the built-in on the right that currently lives in the vestibule. The new closet is now where the shower & potty was .. of course we kept the window in the closet (complete privacy overlooking woods)

The window in the one large closet ... grandmother's chandelier dresses up the space :)

Ripped out the ceiling .. left the pipes and raw planks exposed but painted it all black.

The black paint makes the ceiling disappear. Added wood trim and painted the trim & drywall below a high gloss … gives it a “paneled” look but not the paneled price-tag.

Replaced the carpet with LVP. Easy Peasy transformation.

Notice the doors painted dark .. adds visual interest. Track lighting from big box store was easy on the budget.
